How to Choose a TMS Provider: Time

Last week we emphasized the importance of experience when choosing a TMS provider. TMS Serenity Center also believes that it’s important to consider the amount of time you’ll be spending and what kind of information you’ll want to discuss before receiving treatment. Here are some questions to keep in mind, along with our responses.

How much time is spent in a consult?

Approximately 90 minutes is spent in order to obtain a thorough history and current status of the individual’s mental health and to discuss if TMS is an appropriate treatment option for the patient.

Does your MD ask for Medical Records and Consult with your Current Psychiatrist and/or therapist in order to get a complete history and picture of your struggle?

We do everything we can to obtain an individual’s records about their care to review prior to their consultation appointment. After the consultation appointment, we then contact the referring physician and/or therapist to ensure we have a thorough patient history and discuss why TMS is an appropriate treatment option.

Dr. Cress Consulting with Patient

Is your MD concerned about all aspects of a patient’s health? Meaning asking about sleep, current blood work, or secondary conditions that might affect your health and well-being?

We are mindful of the importance of taking care of the whole person. This means we know the value of looking into individual’s labs to ensure there are no medical comorbidities such as thyroid disorder, anemia, sleep disorder, etc. As an individual’s mood improves with TMS, it becomes less overwhelming to care of oneself and this includes addressing the value of diet and exercise. Additionally, most individuals struggle with self-esteem issues therefore incorporating psychotherapy is an essential component to helping individuals get to that place of peace and plays an essential role in helping with maintaining mood stability after TMS.
